Spring Update!

Well, I ended up with a 1997 XR650L - from a friend of a friend. I've yet to really do any off road riding (other than the abandoned railroad bed behind our house) but have really enjoyed my what I have done. Even on the tarmac, the bike is a bit of a hoot. Less power can be a good thing.

Might try to commute (153 miles round trip) once a week, just to save on fuel, at least I plan on seeing how deflated I feel after riding a thumper 77 miles to work.
